Job Description

Pacific International has once again been retained by a pioneering leader in the biotechnology and life sciences sector. As this organization continues to expand and innovate, they are partnering closely with Pacific International to identify key talent that will drive the future of health and sustainability.

We are currently seeking an Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager to support a dynamic and fast-paced Research & Development facility. This role will be instrumental in shaping and implementing the site’s EHS strategy while fostering a culture rooted in safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative leadership style, deep technical expertise in EHS principles and regulations, and a passion for mentoring teams in a cutting-edge R&D environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Leadership: Develop and execute the site’s EHS strategy in alignment with corporate and annual R&D directives. Ensure operations reflect the company’s core safety values and adhere to all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • People Management: Lead and develop a dedicated site EHS team. Serve as a key member of the Global R&D EHS team and support the site’s ongoing safety culture journey.
  • Program Management: Oversee all R&D EHS programs, including auditing, training, and compliance across key areas such as hazardous waste, wastewater, boiler operations, air emissions, PPE, confined space entry, enzyme safety, and emergency response.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. Manage all relevant reporting and permitting processes with regulatory agencies.
  • Project & Site Development: Assess EHS impact of new R&D projects and process changes. Actively participate in cross-functional project teams and foster EHS awareness throughout the site, especially among new employees.

Qualifications:

  • MS or MPH in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field with 3–5 years of relevant EHS experience; BS with equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage EHS risk and implement effective hazard control strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and monitoring methods.
  • Ability to interpret and apply EHS regulations and corporate standards effectively.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.
  • Experience working in R&D, biotech, or high-complexity environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building or evolving site-level safety culture.
